Vancouver Female Ice Hockey Association

 Vancouver, BC

$25,000 Recipient

Founded in 1972, the Vancouver Female Ice Hockey Association (VFIHA) has a long and proud history of expanding opportunities for girls in hockey across the City of Vancouver. Through free “Come Try Hockey” events, financial assistance programs, and dedicated Indigenous outreach, VFIHA works to remove barriers and create accessibility to the sport for girls of all ages and skill levels. VFIHA places a strong emphasis on participation, confidence building, and fostering meaningful community connections.

With support from the Kruger Big Assist donation, VFIHA will further advance its mission to reduce barriers to participation. The association plans to introduce innovative programming, such as a structured intramural development league, and expand outreach to local minority groups and Indigenous nations. These initiatives will offer low commitment, welcoming opportunities for girls to experience hockey in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

Saskatoon & District Comets Female Hockey (SDCFH) is the only all-female hockey organization in Saskatoon, serving as a cornerstone of the community for over 800 players each season. SDCFH is committed to fostering both athletic development and personal growth, helping players build skills and confidence that extend well beyond their time on the ice.

With the Kruger Big Assist donation, SDCFH plans to launch a citywide “Try-and-Stay” hockey program designed to reduce barriers and welcome new players to the game. The funding will also advance the “Comet Leadership Legacy” initiative, which provides coaching certification opportunities for graduating U18 athletes. By empowering young women to transition into mentors and community leaders, the Comets are investing in the next generation of female hockey players within Saskatoon and beyond.

With the Kruger Big Assist donation, CMHA will expand opportunities for those who may face barriers to getting started in minor hockey. Funding will support the launch of an eight‑week “Try Hockey” program, providing new players with access to equipment and a supportive introduction to the sport. The association will also honour the cultural diversity within its region by hosting an Indigenous ceremony at the start of next season, and offer girls‑only ice sessions that foster confidence and create welcoming spaces where players feel encouraged to stay in the game.

Keswick Valley Minor Hockey

Keswick Valley, NB

$25,000 Recipient

Keswick Valley Minor Hockey (KVMH) is a volunteer run organization in New Brunswick that plays a central role in growing youth hockey throughout Keswick Valley and its surrounding communities.

While developing athletic skills is an important part of the program, KVMH’s deeper purpose is to create a place where young players can build confidence, resilience, and a genuine sense of belonging that extends beyond the rink. Their coaches play a vital role in this mission, creating an atmosphere where every child feels empowered and included.

The Kruger Big Assist donation will enhance KVMH’s ability to support families who may otherwise face barriers to participation. By helping offset registration costs and providing access to essential equipment, KVMH will further remove financial barriers that keep kids off the ice. With the donation, KVMH can ensure that every child in the community who wants to play hockey has the opportunity to be a part of the game.
