DENE COUTURE

Dene Couture designer TISHNA MARLOWE’s commitment to the power of fashion to advance social recognition and inclusion is undeniable. That’s why she completed a fashion degree program at Calgary’s Olds College in her early 40s, adding classic western design and manufacturing techniques to her mastery of indigenous skills, both of which are anticipated to be reflected in her design for this year’s Cashmere Collection. Growing up in the Northwest Territories, Tishna has embraced traditional concepts by learning how to dye with berries, carve antlers into beads and employ fish scales like sequins. Today, she produces sophisticated, wearable art “that anyone can wear.” Tishna says, “I’m both a designer who’s indigenous and a designer of indigenous clothes.”

TISHNA MARLOWE of Dene Couture embraced the Cashmere Collection NEW Belle Époque theme with her extravagantly beautiful gown. Every inch of this era-appropriate ensemble displays exhaustive attention to detail, from the exuberant faux flower collar to the channel-quilted bolero jacket and bodice—both with elaborate embroidery and beading— ending off with a to-the-floor-sweeping A-line skirt with tiers of Cashmere Bathroom Tissue ruffle trim.
