Vancouver’s ALEX S. YU created his first collection of fun-loving, eye-catching women’s wear in 2015, after graduating from the London College of Fashion. His colorful looks are all about the youth subculture in general, with updated elements of Japan’s Harajuku style thrown in. For his #Cashmere19 couture creation, Alex takes inspiration from Martin Margiela’s penchant for designing with unconventional fabrics, to embrace the task of working with luxuriously soft Cashmere Bathroom Tissue. 

ALEX S. YU cites the use of unconventional materials — in this case Cashmere BT — as being “very Martin Margiela.” Alex’s contrasting textures, a beautiful mix of quilted, pleated and ruched material, are equally as Margiela-esque. Yu’s own staple design cues are not forgotten, with an unmistakable shirtdress and a girly, ruffled skirt at the core of his #Cashmere19 design.
